Publication: Blast Testing of Pre-Stressed Concrete under Impulsive Loading

ASME ST-LLC has published the final test report from the Testing of Pre-Stressed Concrete Slabs under Impulsive Loading project, as a Standards Technology Publication.  Publication STP-NU-083 is titled Blast Testing of Pre-Stressed Concrete Under Impulsive Loading and was prepared by Khaled El-Domiaty, PE and Jason Florek, PE of Stone Security Engineering’s Washington, DC office.

The document is based on a project awarded to Stone Security Engineering, by ASME, calling for: the design and fabrication of pre-stressed concrete slabs; blast testing of the slabs; and the provision of a test report. Sponsors of the test series include industry stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and standards developing organizations (SDOs) with direct interest in the findings.

Stone conducted the testing on two‐way, pre‐stressed, concrete slabs to achieve the prescribed rotations specified in the research proposal from the Special Working Group of Modernization reporting to the Joint ACI-ASME Committee on Concrete Components for Nuclear Service (BPV III). The results of this research are beneficial for vendors, designers, regulators, and SDOs worldwide.  This research project originated as a joint effort of three different standards committees:

  • Joint ACI-ASME Committee on Concrete Components for Nuclear Service (BPV III)
  • ACI 349 - Concrete Nuclear Structures
  • ACI 370 - Blast and Impact Load Effects
